Aftan Romanczak, fell asleep in the Lord on Bright Tuesday, April 26, 2022 after a fifteen-year battle with heart disease.
Aftan was born on May 27, 1959 to Aftanzay and Dianna (Tomeo) Romanczak in Little Falls, New Jersey.
From a very young age, Aftan became a faithful servant of the Lord as an altar boy at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Little Falls (Singac), New Jersey. He relished in his faith and it gave him joy, comfort and directed his path through life. He continued to serve on the alters at St. Vladmir Russian Orthodox Church, Miami, Florida, St. Mary of Egypt, Norcross, Georgia and Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Greek Orthodox Church, Cumming, Georgia. Aftan also used his talent in culinary arts to feed his fellow brothers and sisters in Christ at church gatherings, fundraisers and visitations from many bishops and metropolitans. Those that knew him will fondly recount visiting with him after these events where he rewarded himself for his hard work with a cigar.
Professionally, Aftan reached great heights in his field of hospitality. After attending Penn State University, he went back to work for his mentor Walter Conti at a number of Grisanti's restaurants across the country, he was the top candidate, “Numero Uno,” for Olive Garden’s inaugural class of managers, and designed the menus for both Kenny Rogers Roasters and Steak-Out as the Director of Research and Development. He was highly sought after at the end of his career for his expertise in a myriad of specializations across the industry, being quoted in over 80 articles in Nation's Restaurant News and other industry trade magazines.
Aftan will be equally thought of for his zealous passion for all sports but most notably Penn State Football, and the Philadelphia Flyers, Eagles and Phillies. He will be remembered screaming at the television screen during rough years and jumping up and down in great years, but irrespective he was steadfast in his team loyalty.
He was greatly loved and will be terribly missed by Cheri and Lindsay Romanczak which he showed extraordinary love and devotion to for the last twenty-two and fifteen year respectively. He also will be missed by his family, friends and beloved church members. May his memory be eternal.
