Albert Melvin Carson, age 74, of Cumming, GA, and formerly of Quincy, died on Friday, October 25, 2013 in Emory University Hospital in Decatur, GA.
He was born and raised in Quincy, Ill. His dad passed away when he was only 9 and he was raised by his mother after that. He has two brothers, George and Donny who passed away about 5 years ago. He went to Catholic School and was taught by Nuns and had many tails to tell. Once he threw a snowball thru an open window of the school and it happens that it hit the nun that happened to be there. Of course they caught him and you know that the Nuns were tough task masters. He was also an altar boy for many years. In high school he was a good athlete, played on the intercity basketball team and they were city champions a number of years in a row. You can imagine that he was popular with the girls.
After high school he went into the military and after basic training was assigned to a unit with top security clearance and sent to Okhida, Japan to monitor communications between different countries. After his 3 year stint he went to school at the University of Illinois and earned a degree in Liberal Arts, worked for the university security unit.
Al and I married in 1984 and celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary in August. He really loved The Lord, his wife, his family and friends and his dogs. He was a gentle man that would always have kind and encouraging words for others and tried to help where he could.
Al had a number of careers, the first one out of college with a Pharmaceutical company selling (legal) drugs. After 13 years of that he had enough and went into estate planning and insurance sales. When we moved to Atlanta in the 80's he became a probation officer and when we moved to Nashville he worked as a counselor for DHS in child and adult protective services. In this role he impacted the lives of many, especially children.
He was a two time cancer survivor, lung and brain cancer and the Radiation took a toll on him. He retired when we moved back to Atlanta in 2000.
He liked to read, spend time with family and friends and loved to dance. He also greatly enjoyed working in the yard, planting and just making it a nice place.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene Carson, his sons Ross, Mark and Craig and his children by marriage Hans, Keith and Elke Tubbs Prosser. He is also survived by his sister Ann Kamphause of Quincy ILL and his brother George Carson. Al touched many lives during his career as a counselor for the Department of Human Services and as a Probation Officer for the city of Atlanta. He will be missed by many.
