Alice Cashion White Scott, age 73, of Gainesville, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017. Alice is the daughter of Dr. Francis Aliceteen Westmoreland White and Thomas Cashion White. Alice is survived by her husband of 35 years, James Daniel Scott. The daughters Cindy Brown Monroe, Caroline Brown Black (Philip Black, Sr), and Nancy Scott Girard. 5 grandchildren, Philip Black, Jr, Marian Monroe, Sarah Black, Anna Girard, and Jack Scott Girard. 1 brother, Dr. Thomas H. White. Alice earned her Master's Degree in Early Child Education, and majored in English from UGA. She taught for 25 years in the Gwinnett School System teaching preschool, readiness, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. Among her accomplishments Alice marched for civil rights in Atlanta, with Andrew Young, Hosea Williams, and others. A Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Alice Scott in recognition for her important contribution to the fight against hatred intolerance in America. Alice's name was placed on the Wall of Tolerance in Montgomery, Alabama. Alice strived for Women's Rights. This remarkable woman, I am Proud to say, was my Wife. Graveside services will be held Monday, May 15th at 1:00 pm at Elmhurst Cemetery in Elberton, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org in memory of Alice. Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory, Cumming, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
