Alice G. Bliss

Alice Gertrude (Ewing) Bliss, 92, long time resident of Gering, Nebraska, passed away on December 30, 2013 in Cumming, Georgia while visiting her daughter and son-in-law. Alice was born in Hart, Michigan, on March 18, 1921 to James Merle Ewing and Mary Esther Schrontz. She graduated from Matawan (Michigan) High School and Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit as a Registered Nurse. She survived three husbands; Hugh Huntley, who died in World War II, Orville Prohs, and Jack Bliss. She is survived by two children Bonita "Bunny" Huntley (John) Salter of Cumming, Georgia; and William "Bill" (Paulette) Prohs of Estes Park, Colorado; one stepdaughter Vicki (Bliss) Lightbody ; one stepson, Jack Bliss; four grandchildren Lori Woodard, Debbie (Lee) Kilpatrick, Stephanie (Jason) Bartolero and Erick (Jeanice) Prohs; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers; Sam of Ridgeway, Colorado; Jim of Alta, California; and Bob of Gold Run, California; one sister, Marolyn Hendershott, of Eastport, Michigan; and many nephews and nieces. Her parents and three sisters, Gwendolyn Nelson, Verla Royle and Beth Gerow, preceded her in death. Alice was for 23 years the School Nurse in the Gering School System, Nebraska, where she was well known and loved by many of the former students. After her retirement she enjoyed baking cookies, cakes and pies to share with her friends and neighbors. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. A memorial service will be held in the spring in Gering for her many friends there. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to your favorite charity.
