Alice Shippey Hinkley

Alice Shippey Hinkley passed away on June 11, 2024 at age 86 in Dawsonville, Georgia.

Alice was pre-deceased by her husband, Richard "Dick" Hinkley, father, Edward Shippey, mother, Helen Shippey,, her, sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara Dorhamer (Raymond), Betty Kirkwood (Jack) and Nancy Isotti (Robert), sons James Hinkley and David Andrew Hinkley and son-in-law Mike Britt, 

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Gail Britt of Hardeeville, SC, son, Jeffrey Hinkley (Lesley) of Dawsonville, GA, grandsons, David Alexander Hinkley (Kerri) of Dawsonville, GA and Devin Britt of Beaufort, SC, a great-granddaughter, Annaleigh Alice Hinkley of Dawsonville, GA and 8 nieces and 4 nephews. 

Alice was born on February 2, 1938 (Groundhog Day as she loved to say) and was raised in Greenfield, MA. She attended Greenfield High School where she was a majorette and University of Massachusetts. She married her college sweetheart, Dick Hinkley and they subsequently moved to North Carolina and then on to Georgia. Later in life at age 50, Alice returned to college to complete her Bachelor's degree at the University of North Georgia, an accomplishment of which she was rightly proud. 

Alice was a homemaker and part-time bookkeeper in her earlier years and later became a successful Realtor selling property in the Lake Lanier area. Alice was a very social and outgoing person with many friends. She enjoyed games of all kinds including cards, board games and Bingo. Alice loved to gamble taking many trips to Cherokee, NC to play the slot machines. Alice was a big Atlanta Braves baseball fan. She also absolutely loved everything ELVIS and had quite the record collection. 

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will followat Sawnee View Gardens in Cumming, GA. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Red Cross.
