April Elizabeth Nix, a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Gigi), sister, and dear friend to many, passed away on September 21, 2024. She was born on April 12, 1957, in Greenville, Texas, to Reverend and Mrs. Fred Brewer. April is preceded in death by her mother, Vivian Woodworth Brewer and her father Fred Vernon Brewer. She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Stanley Nix; brother and sister in-law Vernon and Patty Brewer; sister and brother in-law Debbie and Verle Binkley; sister and brother in-law Rosemary and Daniel Henderson; daughters and sons in-law Kara and Nathan Elwell (Jensen, Landon, Bella, and Emmett); Katy and Bradley Gantt (Everett Redford “Red” and Charlotte Pearl); and Alicia and Pete Eisbrenner (Anna, Mia, and Bella).
April attended Liberty University and graduated with a degree in early and middle school Education. She continued her studies at Kennesaw State University, where she earned a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Technology. As an educator, April’s career spanned more than 35 years in elementary education and administration in virtual education. She received many awards and accolades throughout her career, highlighting her gifts and talents as an educator.
April dearly loved her family. She loved investing time in her grandchildren and sought out ways to connect with each one of them. Gigi spent most weekends at baseball tournaments, swim meets, gymnastics meets, trips to the park with Emmett, and doing crafts or sewing projects. She often gave each of her grandkids thoughtful gifts that they now cherish even more dearly, reminders of Gigi's great love for them. Gigi read her Bible regularly and encouraged each of her grandkids to spend daily time with Jesus.
She often attended a small group for grandparents that showed her the best ways to love and pray for her grandchildren, teaching them how to love in that same way. She also enjoyed helping to lead a small group for ladies in her neighborhood. This was just another opportunity for her to share God’s love, which she was passionate about. April and Stan also volunteered with Family Promise, an organization which offers resources to families experiencing homelessness.
April was loved dearly by so many, and she will be missed beyond measure. She is fondly remembered for her love for Jesus, and her eagerness to seek out and meet any needs she could for others.
