Barbara June Hendricks

Barbara June Hendricks, age 90, of Alpharetta, GA passed away peacefully on Monday, October 9, 2023. She was born in Atlanta to the late George and Estelle (O’Shields) Edwards and enjoyed living in the area near dear family and friends her entire life.

Known to her grandkids as Nanny, she was a kind and gentle soul. She was a lady of few words, usually delivered with a smile, that always rang true and warmed our hearts.

Barbara graduated from Murphy High School (Class of '51) with the life skills required to nurture a marriage with husband Bo, raise three kids, and work in the healthcare industry for 45+ years.  She ultimately retired at 78 years of age with experience in dermatology, internal medicine and endodontics.  Despite not having a college degree, she always amazed us with her knowledge of the medical profession including its complex terminology and processes.

She was a proud mother of a house divided, always tempering her love of son John’s Georgia Bulldogs (and its partying ways) with her admiration for the other son’s academic rigors at The Georgia Institute of Technology.  This division was further complicated when three grandkids graduated from Auburn and added cow-tipping skills to the mix.

Nanny was preceded in death by her husband John Raymond Hendricks, Sr and her loving, handsome first grandchild Jack Hendricks. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Terrie and Carl Marinelli, son John R. Hendricks, Jr., son Jeff Hendricks and daughter-in-law Feryal Hendricks, grandchildren Christina Marinelli Jackson and husband John, Jake Marinelli, Marcie Marinelli Folger and husband Conner, Darby Hendricks, Nicholas Hendricks, great grandchildren Morgan and Molly Jackson, and many extended family members.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 11:00am EST at the Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton, GA 30114.  Chaplain Matt Lacey of Dunwoody, GA will officiate.  Mom will be laid to rest with husband Bo among the many brave warriors who lived and died for our country and the freedoms it represents.

A celebration of life gathering will immediately follow the service at Williamson Brothers BBQ, 1600 Marietta Hwy, Canton, GA 30114.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please consider a donation to The Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org or call 800-272-3900).  This special organization is leading the way to slow or end the onset of Alzheimer's and all other dementia by funding global research to detect it early, improve the quality of care, and ultimately find a cure.
