Barry Lewis Coker, 69, of Cumming, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2020 following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his father James L. (Doc) Coker, Sr. and his sister Charlotte Taylor.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years and best friend Anna Coker of Cumming; children Michele and Kelly Hester of Cumming, Connie and Brian Moore of Mansfield, Bonnie Coker of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren Torrie Hester of Cumming; Zak and Hannah Hester of Cumming; Amber and Ryan McDowell, Jade and Anthony, Roy all of Grady, Ala, James Moore of Oxford; mother Margaret Coker of Kennesaw; siblings James L. Coker (Jim) and Sue Coker of Buford, Kathi Clark of Cumming. Numerous family and friends also survive.
A retired tractor trailer driver with Tull Metals, Barry loved to tell stories of his adventures on the road. He was an avid NASCAR and Falcons football fan, who enjoyed watching westerns while completing crossword puzzles. After retiring from the trucking industry, he worked several years for Forsyth County Government where his wife Anna is still employed.
As a young man, he and his father were among the original contractors at what later became Walt Disney World Resorts, an accomplishment and memory he cherished.
The family plans to hold a private celebration of life on a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the food bank at The Place in Forsyth County.
