Beatrice Owings Simpson, 93, beloved Mother, grandmother, aunt, mother-in-law and friend departed her loving family on October 23, 2021.
She was born in Camas, Washington to Mr. and Mrs. Norman (Beatrice) Owings on April 2, 1928.
After graduating cum laude from the University of California at Berkeley, she married and raised three children.
Bea was an extraordinary woman, with so many talents. She was very involved in her children's and grandchildren's lives, and in enriching the lives of others. She developed one of the first community drug hotlines in the country, and as a woman of faith, worked tirelessly with her churches in multiple youth outreach programs. Bea highly valued education and she used every opportunity presented (vacations, day trips, activities, time spent) to educate her children and grandchildren.
Bea was an accomplished painter, a published poet, enjoyed art, yoga, gardening, throwing dinner parties, singing, dancing and music in general. She had an extensive collection of vinyl, including 78's, which she was known to play quite loudly as she worked and danced around the house. She was a consummate hostess, and an incredible cook. She went after life with great passion and her outgoing personality pulled people toward her. She was not one to sit still for long.
Bea was preceded in death by her daughter Melissa Simpson Cahill, her parents and her two brothers, Laurence Owings and Richard (Louise) Owings. She is survived by her children Cynthia and Randall Thelen, Sy and Shannon Simpson, her grandchildren Kirt Cahill, William See, Alex Chavous, Jason (Monika) Thelen, RJ (Leainni) Thelen, Taylor Simpson, Katelin Simpson and Haley Simpson, five great-grandchildren, two nieces and a nephew.
Memorial service will be Friday, November 12, 2021 at 2pm in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home, Cumming, GA. The family will receive friends from 12-2 before the service.
