Allene Larkins Dunnam passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024, at the age of 94. Allene was born and grew up in Brewton, Alabama, the daughter of William Ralph Larkins and Naomi Belle McKinney Larkins. She attended Judson College in Marion, Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Education. Allene earned her Master of Education degree and Specialist of Education degree at Georgia State University. As a master educator, Allene’s career spanned almost thirty years where she retired from teaching in Georgia.
Allene’s loving and giving nature was felt by so many. Her dedication to her students, being a nurturing mother, having fun with her grandchildren, and adoring her great grandchildren made a lasting impression. Allene was dedicated to her husband, Lee Dunnam, and they embraced many years of joy together. They loved Johns Creek Presbyterian Church, enjoyed travels to beautiful destinations, were blessed with devoted friends and family, doted on each other, and made a wonderful life together. Allene took her role as Stephen’s Minister seriously, as her nature was to reach out to everyone with kindness and support. As a founding member of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators she realized that as the organization grew it would make a difference in the lives of multitudes of students and educators. Everyone grew to expect and love her special recipes of caramel cake, cookies, and rolls. Her unconditional love for everyone and her giving spirit will be missed but each of us knows that she lives on in our hearts.
Allene is survived by her husband, Lee Dunnam, as well as her daughters Jo McCreary Johnson (Wayne), Genny McCreary Bennett, Mina Dunnam (Tom), grandchildren Ryan Breedlove (Jessica), Christine Bennett (Kyle), Will Bennett, and five great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Allene Dunnam at Johns Creek Presbyterian Church on Sunday, September 29 at 12:00PM.
