Betty Bell

Betty W. Bell, age 89, of Sandy Springs, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2023, less than two months shy of her ninetieth birthday. Betty was born in Chamblee, Georgia, on June 9, 1933, the middle child of Ruby Pearson Westbrook and Luther Westbrook.

Betty’s career was spent at General Motors where she worked forty-one years, rising to become the Executive Secretary of the BOP plant in Doraville. Her work also turned into a hobby. Betty loved buying new cars and thrilled in the negotiation process. She became well known to many sales departments in dealerships around the Atlanta marketplace; her last triumph was trading in a Buick for a Cadillac and coming out with a check for fifteen cents from the dealer.

Betty will be buried in the cemetery adjacent the Hopewell Baptist Church of Milton, Georgia. She will lie next to her husband, Gerald, who died in 1991. Mother, Father, both sets of Grandparents and many other family members are buried in Hopewell, dating back to the late eighteen hundreds.

Betty’s older brother, Ivan, and his wife, Mary Allene, are deceased. A younger brother, Jim, and wife, Roxie, live in California. The three sons of Ivan: Bill, Tom and Bob Westbrook and their families, make up the rest of Betty’s immediate family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023, in the Chapel of Dunwoody Baptist Church. A visitation in the foyer of the Chapel will commence at 2:00 pm. The Service, conducted by Pastor Allen Jackson, will begin at 2:30 pm,. A reception will follow the Service. Internment will take place at the Hopewell Cemetery with a committal by Pastor Allen Taliaferro.

In lieu of flowers, if you would like to honor Betty, a donation to the Bell Fund at Dunwoody Baptist Church would be appreciated. This fund was created by Betty on the death of her husband in 1991.
