Betty Zuidema Darden, 92, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Darden, and son, Stanley Minor Darden.
Mrs. Darden was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on December 24, 1925, to Minor and Eva Callahan Zuidema. Mrs. Darden, a former resident of Hockessin, Delaware, graduated from the University of Delaware. She was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Brandywine Republican Party, and Diamond State Garden Club.
Mrs. Darden moved to Fair Play, South Carolina, in 1978. While living there, she was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, a member of Sertoma Club, and a Precinct Captain for the Republican Party. She also taught the Faith Bible Class at North Anderson Baptist Church. After the death of her husband, she served as a teacher with Wycliff Bible Translators and lived in Peru, Brazil, Columbia, and Papua New Guinea. Her sense of adventure was admired by her family.
Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Matthew Markey; granddaughter, Stanna Markey Tucker (Lee); grandsons, Matthew Markey and Peter Markey; and great grandchildren, Bella Tucker, Lauren Tucker, and Will Tucker.
A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Betty may be made to Wycliff Bible Translators, P.O. Box 628200, Orlando, FL 32862.
Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming is in charge of arrangements.
