Billy Doyle Hyde, Sr., 84, of Canton passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021. Billy was a man of God who was loving and honorable and very devoted to his family. He was a former firefighter for the Hopewell Volunteer Fire Department and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with Elvis Pressley. Billy was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Hyde; parents, Carlton and Dessie Hyde, and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his son, Billy Hyde, Jr.; grandchildren, Randy and Kristy Hyde, Anthony Hyde; great grandchildren, Damien Hyde, Joshua Hyde, Michael Hyde; brother, Gene Hyde; sisters and brothers-in-law, Anne and Fred Chumbler, Peggy and Chuck Horton; sisters-in-law, Martha Hyde and Joy Hyde; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 6, at 1:00 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church in Milton with Rev. Bud Sutton and Rev. Lee Gaddis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Hyde will lie in state at the church the hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
