Billy Joe Mullinax

Billy Joe Mullinax, aged 85, a native of Forsyth County, passed away on August 17, 2024, at Northside Forsyth Hospital after a sudden decline in health. Born on August 6, 1939, in Cumming, GA, Billy lived a life filled with love, hard work, and dedication to his family and community. A proud graduate of Forsyth County High School in 1957, he went on to spend his career with Anderson-McGriff Building Supplies in Atlanta and later with Lummus Supply in Oakwood, from where he retired.

Billy is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Barbara Mullinax; their cherished daughter, Joy Nevins; his older brother, Gene Mullinax; and younger sister, Brenda Mullinax. He was a devoted "Papa" to his three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Billy also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who held a special place in his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clay and Lucille Mullinax; brothers, Douglas and Lamar Mullinax; and sister, Linda Poole.

A lifelong member of Longstreet Baptist Church, Billy’s faith was a guiding force throughout his life. He took great joy in teaching Sunday school and actively participating in the church community. Known for his generous spirit and caring nature, Billy was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Even as he faced the challenges of worsening dementia, he found great joy in spending time with his great-grandchildren, sharing his love and wisdom with them.

In his younger years, Billy was known for his love of cars—whether driving them, working on them, or maybe enjoying a ride a little too much and needing a trip to the local junkyard for a spare part. He spent weekends during high school working hard to have a dollar in his pocket, all while helping his family on the farm. Billy’s passion for building and fixing was evident throughout his life, extending far beyond cars. Having worked on the family farm since childhood, he continued to maintain an impressive garden throughout his life, tending it with his trusty tractor, Leonard. His tool collection was a testament to his never-ending curiosity and skill.
