Emblem

After a long, hard-fought battle, Buck Gilbert died of metastatic cancer on July 27th 2022, just two days after celebrating his 85th birthday with his wife Peggy, all four of his Grandchildren and both his Children.  He was born Harold Raymond Gilbert Jr, in Pennsylvania July 25, 1937 and was the son of Irene and Harold Gilbert senior, both deceased, in Coatesville, PA.  He was the third of four children all of whom had preceded him in death. After graduation from Coatesville High School, he joined the US Navy and was a part of the Atomic/Nuclear testing program.  As part of a flight crew in Operation Hardtack, he flew 8 or 9 missions where he witnessed, photographed and flew over close to a dozen live nuclear tests sites, often flying over ground zero less than 30 minutes after detonation.  He was called home to Pennsylvania from his post naval home in Hawaii and then decided to stay and graduate from Penn State, with a bachelor’s in science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology.   After leaving the US Navy, Buck joined Burroughs in 1971 and eventually IBM in 1973, where he retired.  While employed at IBM he lived and worked in Singapore for three years in the education department, introducing new hires to IBM sales training, he left IBM to become an SAP R3 consultant for Cap Gemini and then Deloitte consulting.

He was married in 1967 to Margaret (Peggy) Close.  He had two children, Christopher (Married to Angie) and Jon (Married to Tracy) and four loving grandchildren, Chance, Abby, Maggie and Jack.

He never met a stranger and will be missed by all who knew him. Both Buck’s children work in the Technology sector and two of the four Grandkids are also in Technology. Buck leaves this Legacy behind, being the 1st of his family to graduate college and the first to pursue a career in technology and technology sales.
