Cara Doreen Furbee

Cara Doreen Furbee (Michael) passed away peacefully in hospice care on Monday, January 27th, 2025 after a catastrophic stroke three days prior, in Cumming, GA.

Cara is survived by her spouse of 68 years, Richard; sister Jean Wetzel; two sons, Alan (Susan) Furbee and David (Krisi) Furbee; grandchildren Lindsey (Matthew) Landis, Hunter Davis, Eric (Hannah) Furbee, Thomas (Courtney) Furbee, Benjamin Furbee, Nathaniel Furbee, and Jacob Furbee; her great-grandchildren Lucas Landis, Lily Landis, Lillian Furbee, Hayden Furbee, and Leif Furbee; as well as her large family of nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, five sisters, a brother, and daughter Susan Furbee.

Cara Doreen Furbee was born on November 6th, 1936 at her childhood home in Mannington, West Virginia. She was the eighth and youngest child of Leo Forest Michael and Lutie Marie Arnett. She was a drum majorette at Mannington High School where she met her high school sweetheart. Cara married Richard Furbee on March 31st, 1956. Together they had three beautiful children; Alan, David, and Susan.

Cara was a devoted mother, grandmother and partner. A West Virginian at heart, she lived the majority of her life in southern California before moving to Cumming, GA in 2017. She was an avid gardener and loved having a backyard full of beautiful plants. She loved to travel in her younger years and traveled all over the United States and Europe with Richard. To know her was to love her; she was one of the most kind and compassionate individuals on this planet.

Cara’s earthly life was defined by her determination to live life fully despite its inherent brevity and unpredictability. In lieu of flowers, please plant a special tree in your garden in her name or take the trip that you’ve been putting off as a celebration of her life. Her only final wishes were for her ashes to be spread on Mt. Whitney and at her favorite beach.
