Carolyn Sue Pulliam Garcia, 81, of Cumming, Georgia passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023 after a years’ long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A devoted Baptist, she was a long-time member of Cumming Baptist Church.
A second-generation Forsyth County educator, Carolyn retired from Forsyth County Schools in 1999 having served as both Teacher and Counselor. She served at five schools during her 30+ year tenure - Cumming Elementary, Otwell Middle, South Forsyth Middle, South Forsyth High, and Sawnee Elementary.
A 1960 graduate of Forsyth County High School, Carolyn was elected state-wide as Vice President of the Georgia Y-Club. A lettered athlete, she was a member of the 1959 State Champion Forsyth County High women’s basketball team. In 2016 Carolyn and her teammates from the 1959 team were inducted into the Forsyth County High School Hall of Fame.
Carolyn received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from North Georgia College. She later received her counseling degree from the University of Georgia, from where both her parents had graduated with degrees in education.
Carolyn was a wonderful and caring daughter, a devoted wife, and a loving mother, grandmother, & great-grandmother. Her enthusiasm for life and her love for others was unmatched and her family was her most prized possession. Carolyn always had a bright smile on her face and word of support or encouragement whenever needed. She loved Southern Gospel Music and loved to attend or watch her beloved Atlanta Braves and Falcons.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dwight & Edith Pulliam, former husband Lynn Hicks, and daughter Laura Lynne Hicks.
Carolyn is survived by her husband Richard Garcia, son David (Tracey) Hicks, stepchildren Shawn (Greg) Snapp, Scott (Yorlenne) Garcia, Skye (Garry) Holton, grandchildren Joshua (Megan) McCormick, Abby (Jacob) Otwell, Samantha Snapp, Max Holton, Reagan Hicks, Mia Holton, great-grandchildren Lucas McCormick & Hudson Otwell.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GA. with Rev. Jamie Archer and Rev. Mark Wood officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, September 13 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Thursday, September 14 from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Interment will be at Sawnee View Gardens.
