Carolyn Walton Owen

Carolyn Walton Owen, 82 years old, passed away peacefully in Portsmouth, VA, on October 8, 2012. She was a native on Danburg, GA and was the daughter of Thomas Bradley Walton and Nell Adams. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years Douglas E. Owen of Forsyth County, GA, brother, Ben M. Walton; sister, Frances W. Chadwick; daughter, Janice Burton Drouin; and her two dogs, Sheba and Pugsley. Carolyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah O. Baker (Bob) and Frances M. Owen (partner, Dorothy (Boe) Boehnlein); grandchildren, Christian Wilkins, Jennifer Burton, David Burton (Mindi) and Douglas Leonard; four great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is always survived by sisters Anne Jenks of Augusta, GA and Grace Blackburn (Charlie) of Aiken, SC. Carolyn was a devoted US Navy wife and was evacuated with their three children from the Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. She and Doug lived many happy years in St. Cloud, FL where Doug worked as a firefighter. The family wishes to thank Dr. Donald Cochran and the Staff of Maryview Nursing Care Center for their tender loving care over the past seven years. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 17th at 11:00 a.m. at Salem Baptist Church in Forsyth County where Carolyn was a member. A reception will follow at the church fellowship hall. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Salem Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 7350 Jot-Em-Down Road, Gainesville, GA 30506 or to a charity of one's choice.
