Charles Edward Aylin (Charlie) passed away peacefully, surrounded by love and family, on Friday, April 30th, 2021 at the age of 82. Charlie was born in Bay Minette, Alabama on 9/17/1938. He graduated from Bay Minette High School in 1956. He received his Bachelor of Science in Forestry Management from Auburn University in 1960, and his Master of Science Degree in Forestry from Yale University in 1966. Charlie was a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1960-1962. Charlie worked for International Paper Company, and The LaBoiteaux Company, where he traveled the world as a National Account Executive. Charlie was honored to participate in the Unites States Executive Exchange program in 1976 in Washington D.C., where he worked in the US Pentagon.
Charlie married fellow Auburn student, Louise Smith, from Norton Virginia in 1959. They were married for 56 years, and had two children, Mac and Martha. Charlie was known for his southern hospitality. He loved to cook and entertain, always ready to whip out a southern specialty. Charlie loved bridge and playing hearts on the train home to Westport. Both he and Lou were avid Auburn football fans and War Eagle was their calling card. Charlie loved to sing in the church choir, play golf, read good novels, cook, and cruise the Long Island Sound on the "Gumbo". Charlie made everyone feel at home and his famous advice to the teenagers in his house is still repeated today "Be Careful, Nothing stupid, and Don't go anywhere you don't want your body found".
Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Mac and Stella Aylin, Bay Minette Alabama, his brother, William (Bill) Aylin, and his beloved wife, Louise. Charlie is survived by his children Edward MacDonald (Mac) and Tina Aylin, Cumming Georgia, and Martha (Aylin) and Terry Nonnemacher, Littleton Colorado. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Jeffrey Nonnemacher (23), Andrew Nonnemacher (21) and Jessica Aylin (17).
Contributions can be made to the American Lung Association or American Heart Association in his name. Services will be announced at a later date.
