METZ, Charles Richard (Dick) of Sandy Springs, GA died January 29, 2014 at the age of 88. Born on June 20, 1925 in Mishawaka, Indiana and preceded in death by his parents Cecil E. and Annice Metz; brother Ralph Metz and sister Olive D. Metz. Dick married Donna Ruth Langdon on July 19, 1947. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in WWII, and a member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, GA. His career in food service included over 30 years in national and district food management for JC Penney Company. Dick was devoted to his wife and family. He will fondly be remembered for his sense of humor and willingness to help others. Faithfully serving in leadership positions over the years, Dick was a gentleman and a friend to all. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Donna Ruth Metz; brother - Cecil E. Metz, Jr; son and daughter-in-law - Richard C. and Kathy Metz of Savannah, GA; daughters and sons-in-law - Diana L. and Richard Chrisman of Bloomingdale, IL; Sandy D. and Robert Painter of Cumming, GA; grandchildren - Brian M. Chrisman, Tiffany P. Baker, Gregory M. Chrisman, Jennifer P. Morris, Lisa A. Leathers, Leslie M. Dempsey; and 14 great grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate Dick's life will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, February 8, 2014 in the Essex Room at Huntcliff Summit Independent Living, 8592 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs, GA 30350. Following the service, the family will receive friends from 2 to 5 pm at the home of Sandy and Bob Painter in Cumming, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Embracing Hospice Foundation, 5775 Peachtree Dunwoody Rd, Suite D580, Atlanta, GA 30342.
