Charles “Sharkey” McClure

Charles “Sharkey” McClure, 92, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. He was born on May 12, 1930 in Forsyth County, Georgia. He attended Brandywine School in Forsyth County in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Charles has been a resident of Portsmouth, Virginia for over fifty years. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, he retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer with more than twenty years of active service. After retiring from the Navy, Sharkey worked in the X36 Riggers Department at the Newport News Shipyard in Newport News, Virginia for twenty-three plus years. His main wish in life was to be a friend to his fellow man. He certainly tried to be.

Charles is survived by his brother, Alton Christopher and wife Becky of Destin, FL; two nieces, Arlene Vickie Hall of Cumming, GA and Darlene Hall McDaniel and husband David of Carrollton, GA and their two children, Christopher and Elizabeth; and numerous cousins.

Graveside funeral services will be held Sunday, February 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Sawnee View Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
