Christopher Jude Kane, 52, of Cumming, GA died peacefully on December 23, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family.
Chris showed incredible strength, courage and resilience as he faced his challenges with great determination and unwavering hope. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and shared his story openly in hopes of increasing awareness, fostering a better understanding, and, ultimately, saving lives.
Chris, the son of Edward Kane and Evelyn (Connell) Doerr, was born in Havertown, PA on March 18, 1972 and was a lifelong proud Philadelphian even while making Cumming his home for the past sixteen years. He maintained strong ties with his Good Shepherd, West Catholic and La Salle University communities and enthusiastically supported his beloved Philly sports teams.
Chris was a gifted educator and coach. He taught social studies and coached soccer at Archbishop John Carroll High School in Radnor, PA, where he met his wife, Janet (Zimmerman), and they married on July 10, 1999, before going on to spend ten years as a Division I college coach at La Salle University, Rutgers University, The University of Georgia and Marshall University. His more recent years were spent back in the classroom and on the field at Pinecrest Academy in Cumming, where he also served as Athletic Director, and currently at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Roswell, GA. Chris also spent almost thirty years as a club soccer coach, working with FC Delco in PA, and Georgia Rush, United Futbol Academy and Atlanta Fire United in GA. Soccer was his passion.
Chris was beloved by the hundreds of students and players he instructed over the years and their families and received numerous accolades and awards. Known for his energetic, engaging teaching style both in the classroom and on the field, Chris had a way of connecting with his students and players and bringing out the best in them through his wisdom, wit and understanding. Likewise, his students and players gave him life up until the very end.
Christopher is survived by his wife of 25 years, Janet, their three children, Brendan, Evan and Meredith, and two dogs he adored, Lucy and Bart; mother and stepfather Evelyn and John Doerr; father Edward Kane; brothers Dennis (Sandy) Kane and Jeffrey (Kristin) Kane; stepbrothers, nieces and nephews, and extended family members he loved so much.
