Clay Thompson (Casey) Carter, Jr., 41, died Friday, December 31, 2021. Born in Athens, Georgia, he went on to pursue his interests in writing, cooking, and outdoor activities.

Casey was a talented and accomplished poetry writer and artist. He published four books of his compositions, for many of which he won awards. He created the artwork for his book covers and the illustrations throughout all of his books. Casey also had a passion for cooking deliciously wonderful food and was an accomplished chef. He lived in Seattle for a time where he worked under Chef Andy Hilliard at one of his restaurants. He enjoyed making special meals for his family and friends. Casey also had a deep love of the outdoors. He enjoyed organic gardening planting apple trees, blueberry bushes, and flowers, especially sunflowers that grew taller than he was. He loved hiking, camping, riding horses, and fishing, to name a few of his favorite activities.

Casey was the son of Tammie Brown Carter, Cumming, Georgia and Clay Thompson Carter, Sr., Athens, Georgia. Survivors in addition to his parents include his sister, Carrie Carter of Bogart, Georgia, nieces Jade Smithson of Bogart, Georgia, Ella Smithson and Chrissy Smithson both of Pensacola, Florida and nephew Ash Bloodworth of Bogart, Georgia, maternal grandmother Ella O. Lucier (David) of St. Augustine, Florida, paternal aunt, Jan Carter of Athens, Georgia, paternal uncle, Reeves Carter, Athens, Georgia, maternal cousins Thomas Brown and David Brown of St. Augustine, Florida, paternal cousins Carter Lenderman and Kelly Lenderman of Athens, Georgia, along with many other cousins on both sides of his family. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, W. Tate Brown, Sr., paternal grandparents, James and Bobbie Carter, and maternal uncles Thomas Charles Brown and W. Tate Brown, Jr. and paternal uncle, Rusty Carter.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel at Ingram's Funeral Home in Cumming, Georgia. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Flowers, plants or memory items may be sent to the funeral home or donations may be made in Casey's name to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance at www.ccalliance.org.
