Cleveland Jack Carnes

Cleveland Jack Carnes, age 64, of Cumming, GA passed away peacefully on January 8, 2024 surrounded by his family and longtime friend. Cleveland was born October 3, 1959, in Cumming GA, the only child of Jack Delmar and Mary Edith (Sosebee) Carnes.

Cleveland’s favorite hobbies and past times were fishing, shooting squirrels, and just relaxing.

At the age of 16, he started working at Tyson Foods, where he met the love of his life and future wife, Gail Martin. They were married on February 4, 1978.

Their early years together were spent attending many, many concerts with his best friend of 55 years, Terry Holbrook who he always called T.H.

After the birth of their son, Jeremy in 1983, he became the center of their lives, and they did everything together. After Jeremy’s death in 2015, Cleveland and Gail drew strength from each other in their time of grief.

Cleveland was described by many as being one of the most laid-back persons that they ever met.

Cleveland and Gail both retired from Tyson Food in 2021 where Cleveland had worked for 46 years and Gail for 48 years.

Cleveland loved watching Gunsmoke and Bonanza and he and Gail watched all the Braves games and enjoyed watching football games.

As a young boy Cleveland had attended Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where he was baptized and later in life he moved his letter to Silver Shoals Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Shawn “Bongo” Carnes; parents: Jack and Mary Carnes; grandparents; Tyke and Estelle Carnes and Earnest and Myrtie Sosebee; father-in-law and mother-in-law: John C. and Cora Lee Martin.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years Gail (Martin) Carnes; brother-in-law: Roger “Pete” (Natalie) Martin; sisters-in-law: Dian (Billy) Burt, Wanda (Marc) Hastings, Rene (John) Dockery, and Denise (Phong) Nguyen. Nieces: Roxanne (Bart) Brannon, Krystle (David) Pugh, Kristen (Nate) Fiumano, and Jordan Martin. Nephews: William (Kimi) Burt, Craig Hastings, Brett (Megan) Hastings, Jeff (Amy) Dockery, Brandon Nguyen, Justin (Kory) Nguyen and Josh Martin; and other family and friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Akins, Rev. Greg Rawlins, and Rev. Eric Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and Thursday 9:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
