Concetta Rizzuto “Connie” Brooks, 93, of Duluth, Georgia, passed away on March 10.  A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Thursday March 17 at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GA.  She is survived by her five children, eleven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Leslie W. “Pete” Brooks, who passed away in 2006. 

Connie was born in 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, a first-generation daughter of Sicilian immigrants. An honor student, she graduated from Bushwick High School in Brooklyn in 1946.  After graduation she served in the WAVES, and then held a number of administrative jobs in Manhattan, including working for the City of New York Department of Welfare.  In addition, she helped her mother and sister run the family beauty salon in Bushwick.  In 1956 she married Army SFC Pete Brooks, and for the next 13 years until his Army retirement in 1969 she raised their family as they moved around the U.S. stationed at various Army bases from Virginia to New Jersey, Georgia, Texas and even as far west as Washington state.  Upon Pete’s Army retirement they settled in Columbus, GA and in 1974 relocated to the Atlanta area.  Later in life she discovered her gift for decorative painting and her artwork graced a number of homes in the Atlanta area. 

She is survived by her children, James Brooks, Barbara and David Foote, Marcia and David Congdon, Mary and Matt Ablett and Michael and Kate Brooks; grandchildren, Margaret Brooks, Ella Brooks, Ashley Foote, Adam Foote, Austin Foote, Christopher Buckman, Elizabeth Buckman, Kaitlyn Burns, Brian Blair, Morgan Brooks and Nathan Brooks; and great-grandchildren Lily Dodson, Olivia Foote, Caleb Dodson, Luke Dodson, Charlotte Buckman and Avery Buckman. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tim Barton officiating.. Interment will follow later at Georgia National Cemetery.
