Dane Kay Marshall, 71, of Cumming passed away Friday, April 19th, 2019.
Dane was born in Louisiana November 1st, 1947 to the late Juanita and Delwin Hammons.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend who always valued others above herself. Her sweet, genuine, nature drew others close to her. She taught for 31 years at Oconee County High School, during which time she achieved many accolades, including STAR teacher (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) for 10 years, the Siemens Award for Advanced Placement in 2001, the John Neff Teaching Award in 2004-2005,. She and became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2001. Her students loved her as a teacher and mentor, and many kept in touch with her for years following graduation.
In her retirement Dane loved to gardening, spending time with her family, and enjoying the company of her many dear friends. She was a member of the Red Hats, the Forsyth County Ladies League, and SWIM (Single Women in Motion). She regularly played Bridge, Dominoes, and Mahjong.
Dane was a devoted member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cumming, where she served on several committees and in numerous other capacities.
Survivors include her sister, Detra Freeman and brother, Jack Hammons,; her children, Melanie Stewart and Melissa Sanacore,; and cherished grandchildren, Zachary Stewart, Samantha Stewart, Brandon Stewart, Sofia Sanacore, and Gabriela Sanacore.
The funeral will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, April 29th, at 11:00 AM, 1125 Bettis Tribble Gap Rd, Cumming, GA 30040.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church.
Ingram Funeral Home Crematory, 210 Ingram Ave, Cumming, GA 30040 is in charge of arrangements.
