Darlene Hurt Ogden, was born in Louisville, Kentucky on June 14, 1938 to Len and Frances Hurt. She died at the age of 76 on February 6, 2015, in Cumming, Georgia after a recurrence of breast cancer 13 years prior. She shared 55 loving years with her husband, Marion "Oogie" Ogden. She is survived by her husband and their children: Justin (Vanessa) Ogden of Potosi, Missouri; Eric (Sissy) Ogden of Berea, Kentucky; and London Ogden Roberts of Richmond, Kentucky. She was blessed to have four grandchildren, Amber Dillon, Kristin Ogden, Stephen Ogden and Grace Roberts. She is also survived by her brother Len (Ann) Hurt of Louisville, Kentucky, and their children: Debbie (Randy) Freeman, Len (Tammy) Hurt, Laura Reid, Tim Hurt, and Shannon (Gary) Billion. Darlene was an avid educator. She graduated from duPont Manuel High School in Louisville in 1956. She entered the University of Louisville as a freshman; six colleges and seventeen years later she attained her Bachelor's degree from University of Memphis, followed quickly by her Masters and then a PhD, both from Indiana University. She taught at five different universities in Indiana, Kentucky and Georgia. She is remembered as a professor who loved the learning process and diligently read and corrected every word her students turned in. After retiring from Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, she was an instructional assistant for eight years in the Forsyth County Schools. Darlene enjoyed traveling and was a member of Johns Creek Baptist Church, where she was an active choir member, faithful to her Sunday School Community, and was deeply involved in mission work. One trip in 2008 took her to Liberia, West Africa for two months, where she worked with an NGO, Restoration of Educational Advancement Programs, conducting teacher training and library organization for new teachers and educators. The celebration service for Darlene will be at the Johns Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 11:00a.m. Family visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13 at the Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, Georgia. There will be a second memorial service at the First Baptist Church in Richmond, Kentucky, on February 21, 2015 at 11:00a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be designated to the Missions Fund of either Johns Creek Baptist Church, 6910 McGinnis Ferry Road, Alpharetta, GA 30005, or First Baptist Church, 425 Eastern Bypass, Richmond, KY 40475.
