David H. Galvin, age 85, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024, with his loving family by his side. His parents and two older brothers predeceased him. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Mary; his son, David (and Cindy); his daughter, Gabrielle (and Hershel) Bennett; his grandchildren, David (and Jenna), Christopher (and Amanda), and Michael Galvin, and Bronwyn, Kensley, and Braeden Bennett; his great-grandchildren, Elena, David, and Luke Galvin; and his sisters-in-law, Ruth and Antoinette Galvin.
Dave was a man of deep faith, piercing intellect, and considerable charm. He met his wife at a fraternity party, looking stunning as a freshman in his beanie, which was custom attire for new pledges at the time. While she was sitting alongside a senior classmate, he went right up to her, knelt next to her, and bravely asked, “Are you for me?” Thus began a lifelong love affair and marriage partnership. Dave graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in chemistry. He translated all that charm and good judgment into a successful career as a salesman in the paper and corrugated products industry. He began his career with Mead Paper Company in Chillicothe, Ohio, then later in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1984, he brought his family to Atlanta, Georgia, to work with Great Southern Paper Company, which was later acquired by Georgia Pacific, serving as a technical director and consultant to the industry. He was a past president of TAPPI (the Technical Association of the Pulp & Paper Industry, Inc.) and traveled extensively throughout the world during his career. After retiring from Georgia Pacific, he established his consulting business and enjoyed a successful “post-career” career. Although Dave placed great importance on being a good provider, his focus was on his faith, family, and country. He and his wife were heavily involved in the charismatic and healing ministries of the Catholic Church. They always made their faith a priority and offered their time, talents, and treasure to their church. Dave served as a Eucharistic Minister and led many men’s Bible studies at their various parishes over the years. He also mentored numerous men in their faith journeys and acted as a sounding board for their struggles. Dave proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 16th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, 4633 Shiloh Road, Cumming, Georgia. Burial will take place later in a private ceremony for the family.
