David Kirkwood Leitch III

David Kirkwood Leitch III, of Cumming Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the age of 75.

Born on July 27, 1948, in Toccoa, Georgia, he was the son of the late David Kirkwood Leitch Jr. and Martha Frances Stewart. David attended Stephens County High School and became passionate about baseball. He dreamed of being a professional player, but always the practical man, instead attended the University of Georgia where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1973. 

David then began an impressive 40-year career with the Kroger Company based in Atlanta, Georgia. He spent time as a staff pharmacist, district manager and later became the Pharmacy Merchandiser for the Atlanta Division which encompassed Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina. David served on the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy Advisory Board and the Mercer University College of Pharmacy Board of Visitors. He was awarded the “V” Carlton Henderson award for his outstanding achievements in the practice of pharmacy.  He was also awarded the “Distinguished Alumnus” award from the University of Georgia.  David initiated donations to the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy as well, which established the “David Leitch Endowed Student Scholarship” to aid future students.

David was very passionate about his career, and his alma mater (go Dawgs!). He had a strong sense of morals and character and modeled those traits to all who knew him. David had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved a good laugh and friends often commented about his “infectious smile”.

Above all, David cherished time with his family as they were the most important part of his life. His wife, children, and grandchild were always the center of his attention and he beamed with joy whenever they were mentioned.  Many joyous times were shared, and those memories will live on in their hearts.  David is survived by his wife Janice Leitch, and children Kirk Leitch, Marty Tomlinson, Rachael Tomlinson, Connor Leitch, Jordan Leitch, daughter-in-law Lindsey Leitch, and sweet granddaughter, Harper Leitch. He is preceded in death by his daughter Karson Leitch, who will always be his “sunshine”.
