David Ray West, age 90, formerly of Canton, Ohio passed away on the 18th of January at his residence in Alto, Ga.
Mr. West was born on the 27th of November 1923 in Andrews, N.C. He was the son of the late Luther and Parolee Carver West. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marianna Wirebaugh West in 2007, brother, Grant West and two sisters, Frances Mason and Christine Mason.
Mr. West was a veteran of the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. and served three years in Belgium, France in WW II. After the war he worked as a paint contractor for 58 years. He loved to spend his free time fishing, being outdoors and watching baseball games. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, a true family man.
Mr. West is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and John Bell of Alto, Ga., who were his caretakers, two granddaughters and their spouses Heather and Keith Wilson of Eastanollee, Ga., and Jamie and Jeremy Wilson of Canton, N.C. Three grandsons Joseph Flounders, Jonathan Bell, and Johnny Cunningham all of Canton, Oh, and 13 great grandchildren. Also sister Kate Waldroup of Or., Brother and sister-in-law Harold and Shirley West of Fl, and sister-in-law Debra West of Oh.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
