Deborah "Debbie" Jane Willis, born in Augusta, GA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 21, 2024, in Cumming, GA following a stroke three weeks earlier. Debbie's vibrant spirit and warm heart touched everyone she met. Preceded in death by her mother Elise Blackwell Smith; father Dave Smith; brother, Douglas Smith; and mother-in-law Faye Harrelson Willis.
Debbie’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her. Her faith in Christ and family were top priorities in her life. She was very active, encouraged all, and served well, most recently as a volunteer for several years with the First Baptist Cumming Hospitality Committee. No doubt she is in Heaven planning and organizing parties! Debbie and Greg initially met in Houston, married in 1988 and lived in St. Louis where their son, Jarrod, was born in 1995. When an opportunity came for a job transfer to the Atlanta area, they jumped on the opportunity to be closer to grandparents in Augusta, GA and Weaver, AL, establishing a new home in Forsyth County in 2001. Debbie was thoroughly engaged with Jarrod's Cub Scouts, Elementary PTA and Middle School/High School band events. Other than an occasional substitute teacher, she enjoyed being a stay-at-home wife and mother. Unfortunately, Debbie experienced multiple health issues the last few years of her life.
Anyone who knew Debbie well knows she had her own relaxed approach to timeliness. Fashionably late to every gathering, we can’t help but smile at the thought that she likely arrived at Heaven's Gates just a bit after everyone else, making her grand entrance as only she could. Her unique sense of twisted humor always brought laughter to those around her, adding a special joy to every moment. Debbie’s family would like to thank everyone for their support and prayers during this difficult time. Her warmth, kindness, and love will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Debbie leaves behind her husband of 36 years Greg Willis; son Jarrod Willis, (Meghan); brother Dan Smith (Lori); father/mother--in-law Larry and Becky Willis, brother/sister-in-law, Wayne and Wilma Willis, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held to honor Debbie's legacy. Friends and family are invited to visitation at Ingram Funeral Home on Saturday, August 3, 2024, 11:00AM, followed by a service at Noon. Pastors from First Baptist Cumming, Scott Carpenter and Tom Hayslip, will conduct the service. Fellowship meal for all will be held across the street at Tam's Backstage. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Cumming Benevolence Fund, which provides financial assistance and support to individuals and families in need within the community. Address: 1597 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, GA 30040, or church office 770 887 2428.
