Derrick Gilbert

Derrick Gilbert, age 46 of Athens, formerly of Cumming, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014. He was a member of Coal Mountain Baptist Church and had a distinguished career with the Georgia Department of Corrections for 24 years. Derrick was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Gene Gilbert, Sr. Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Linda Gilbert of Athens; mother and stepfather, Nancy and Cloys Milford of Cumming; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby Gene Gilbert, Jr. and Tracy of Cumming, Jamie Joseph Gilbert and Brenna of Cumming; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Ellen Harris of Athens; nieces, Morgan Gilbert and Gracie Gilbert; nephews, Robert Harris (Heather) and Stephen Harris; great niece, Anna Harris. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 6th at 11:00 am at Coal Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Sunday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Monday from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm and Tuesday from 9:00 am until hour of the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either the American Heart Association, or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, or the animal rescue organization of your choice.
