Dewey L. Meers

Dewey L. Meers, age 85, of Free Home passed away Saturday, October 3, 2015. Dewey was born June 6, 1930 in Lumpkin County to the late Ulysses and Lula Martin Meers and moved to Free Home at the age of 21, where he lived the rest of life. A tireless worker, he was a share cropper, was employed by Leroy Pendley and Son and Amos Plumbing and Electrical. Dewey also raised cattle and poultry for many years. He was a long-time, faithful member of New Harmony Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent. A loving and faithful husband, Dewey will be best remembered as a person who loved his family and would help anyone. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Fannie Lorene Seabolt Meers. Survivors include his wife, Betty H. Baker of Canton; sons and daughters-in-law, Lamar and Beth Meers of Free Home, Phil and Tina Meers of Free Home; grandchildren, Shawna Meers-Ernst, Crystal Meers-Bobo, Amanda E. Zellner, Matthew L. Meers; 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Leslie M. Jones of Dahlonega, Edith M. Warren of Ellijay; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 6, at 1:00 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Purcell, Rev. Clyde Boling and Rev. Matthew Meers officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
