Don Rodney Alsop

Don Rodney Alsop graduated from his Earthly home on Monday, January 18, 2021. He was 76. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in the Covenant to Rodney Earl and Madge Jackman Alsop on June 24, 1944 in Murray, Utah. Most of his childhood was spent in Murray and Sandy.

Upon graduating from Granite High School, Don served honorably as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, called to serve in the Central Atlantic States Mission.

While serving he met the love of his life, Judy Ann Holmes. Upon completing his mission, Don and Judy were married and Sealed for Eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on August 16th 1965. Don and Judy love each other deeply. A father of four children: Stephanie Christopherson (Michael); Steven Alsop (Lisa); Kevin Alsop (Danielle); and Kimberlie Hansen (Mitchell).

Don and Judy raised their family in a loving home in High Point, North Carolina and later moved to Marietta, Georgia. Don achieved a Bachelors of Science from Guilford College and worked for AT&T as a Communications Technician for 35 years. Retirement took Don and Judy to Alpharetta, GA; Jamestown, NC; and finally Canton, GA.

Don had many passions and hobbies. He loved sharing his experience and wisdom with his children, grandchildren, and anyone else that would listen. His favorite pastimes included: serving others, working with and helping his "other" mom and dad; Ralph Jacob and Mary Ellen Holmes, working in gardens, building and fixing projects with friends and family, genealogy and family history, scouting, teaching, knot tying, singing, photography, watching movie clips on YouTube, and he loved to learn.

Don's faithful service and activity for the church included serving as a Scout Master, Youth Leader, Seminary Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, Genealogy Consultant, Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, multiple Bishoprics, and High Councilor. He served wherever he was called.

Don's passion for Scouting led him to achieve his Eagle Scout (decorated with a Bronze Palm), Wood Badge, Duty to God, and many other awards.

He was fiercely loyal to his God, his Savior Jesus Christ, his wife, his family, his friends, and his country. Don's love for others was on display for everyone that met him. "Dandy Don's" wit and humor was infectious. Don's life was a tribute to his testimony that God lives, and the divinity of his son Jesus Christ.

Don is survived by his wife Judy Holmes Alsop; his four children Steph, Steve, Kevin and Kim; and their spouses Mike, Lisa, Danielle, and Mitch. He is also survived by his grandchildren and their spouses Laura (Nate), Shari (Evan), James, Kylie (Andy), Megan, Amber, Jhenna, Terin, Christian (Brooklyn), Katelin, Logan, Easton, Connor, and Kellie; and his great grandchildren Adelyn, Stockton, and one on the way. His surviving siblings are Ruth, Larry (Loretta), and Janna (Tom); and his in-laws Rick (Candy), and Brenda (David), Glori and countless close friends and loved ones. He was preceded by his mother and father, Madge Jackman Alsop and Rodney Earl Alsop, and his brother Ted J. Alsop.
