Donald M. Rigney, 81, of Canton, GA, passed peacefully 2/2/18 at Seasons Hospice in Cumming, GA after a brief illness. Formerly of Cohoes, NY, Mr. Rigney was a United States Air Force veteran who specialized in airplane hydraulics and enjoyed boxing. He also worked as a welder at the Watervliet Arsenal in Watervliet, NY, and worked in several auto repair shops as an auto mechanic. Mr. Rigney recently moved to Georgia with his wife to live with their daughter. He is preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Irene (Booth) Rigney, on 6/26/17, and was also preceded in death by his infant son, Stanley Darren Rigney, in 1962. He is survived by his children Michael (Melissa) of Camden, DE; Larry (Angel) of Glens Falls, NY; Cindy (Don) Ellett of Canton, GA; Karen (Dave) Caiazza of Webster, NY; Thomas (Loretta) Rigney of Scotia, NY; and Keith (Jessica) Rigney of Fuquay-Varina, SC; as well as 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mr. Rigney is also survived by his brother Warren (Carol) Rigney of Troy, NY; his brother Alden Rigney of Cohoes, NY; and his sister Marian Willetts of Waterford, NY.
Visitation and a brief service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Byars Funeral Home in Cumming, followed by 1 p.m. burial at Georgia National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers (due to restrictions by cemetery) donations may be made in his memory to the Troy Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans in Troy, NY.
