Donald Clarence Pauley

Donald Clarence Pauley, Lt Colonel, USMC, age 84, of Cumming GA, formerly of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away November 15, 2016. Don was a 9th generation West Virginian where he was born and raised in the coal camps; the oldest child and only son of Clarence Everett and Elsie Maynard Pauley. Don was a graduate of the University of Utah where he received his Bachelors of Science and Masters Degree in Mining Engineering and served as the President of his Sigma Pi fraternity. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment at the University of Utah was finding his bride of 61 years, Cherie Mae Middaugh. Donald served in the United States Marine Corps for 24 years completing two combat tours during the Vietnam War. Following his retirement from the Corps, Don returned to his home state of West Virginia to assume his role as a Professional Engineer with the Southern Land Company, for a time working alongside his father. He developed countless mining, timber, natural gas and commercial operations in the state of West Virginia. Don was an outdoorsman with a passion for fishing, an active supporter of the Republican Party, and a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Don earned many respected designations associated with his name during his life. However, his favorite title was "Grandpa." Don is survived by his two sisters, Rosalie and Sydney Pauley; 5 daughters, Lynn Pauley of Sumter, SC, Donna (Daniel) Fairbanks of Orem, Utah, Brenda (David) Yates of Johns Creek, GA, Dee (John) Foster of Cumming, GA and Carol (Chan) Gregory Reeves of Suwanee, GA; 20 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 2:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3185 Dahlonega Highway, Cumming, GA with Bishop Andrew Jeppsen officiating. Interment will be held Wednesday, November 30, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society at nmcrs.org or The Univeristy of Utah College of Engineering Scholarship Fund at umarket.utah.edu.
