Donald Craig Mullenax

The smartest man in the world has died. Donald Craig Mullenax was born in the beautiful Allegheny Mountains in Arbovale, West Virginia in July of 1937 and died surrounded by loving family in December of 2017. The birth and death of this great man, however, is not nearly as relevant as all the days and nights that he lived to the fullest between those two dates.

Don was intellectually gifted, had a keen sense of humor, and was a brave and fearless soldier. In fact, he wasnt afraid of anything he ventured off to college, ROTC, and then married the love of his life, Joann. They took off to France and their adventures began; traveling the world and journeying through life with his best friend. They spent 57 beautiful years in marriage, hand in hand until the end.

Top of his class and early advancements were where he set the barre. He didnt settle for good, he was going for great, and great is how he lived. You never left him without laughing and his sharp humor will long be remembered. He loved hunting, fishing, country and gospel music, good fun, a strong martini, and most of all, he loved his family.

Blessed by two incredible parents, Virgil Craig and Myrtle Eye Mullenax, who have pre-deceased him and are now celebrating his return home with him, Don is survived by his wife Joann, daughter Connie and husband Rick Matthews, granddaughters Morgan and Reagan Matthews, sisters Helen Barton and Bonnie Hill, brothers Delmas and wife Eunice Mullenax, and Galen and wife Kim Mullenax, and many treasured extended family members.

Don provided countless lifelong memories for his wife, daughter, granddaughters, family, and friends that we will cherish forever. He lived a full and happy life and we are honored to celebrate the dashes between the day he entered this world and day he left. We encourage you to do the same.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, December 17th at 2:00 pm at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wendell Jackson officiating.
