Donald Robert “Don” Massoni, Sr.

Donald Robert “Don” Massoni, Sr. (age 89) of Suwanee, GA passed away Saturday July 16, 2022. Don was born February 6, 1933 in Brooklyn New York to the late Vincent and Madeline Massoni. He was the oldest of seven children. 

Don graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.

A proud veteran, Don served his country in the U.S. Army branch of the armed forces during the Korean War era. Following his service in the Army Don had a very accomplished and successful career as an Electrical Engineer in the telecommunications industry. He worked 41 years for the American Telephone and Telegraph conglomerate of companies. Don served in multiple senior executive positions, beginning with Bell Laboratories, then New York Telephone and finishing his career with Nynex Corporation, the telephone company which served the New England market.

Don was married to the love of his life Dorothy Florence “Dee” Meyers for 64 years. They raised three sons in Long Island New York before retiring and moving to Hilton Head, South Carolina and finally to Suwanee GA to be closer to family. Don was very giving and always generously volunteered his time to his community and neighbors. His love and kindness were felt by everyone he touched.

Don enjoyed traveling and he was proud of his life’s career accomplishments. Above everything in life, Don enjoyed and was most proud of his family, which he loved dearly. He would often say his loving wife, three sons, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren made him “the luckiest man alive”. 

Don was a truly great man who will be missed by many. We’re proud of the wonderful life he lived and are grateful that we were able to be with him during his final days. We all find much comfort knowing he is at peace. 

Don was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy Florence “Dee” Massoni and is survived by many loving relatives and friends including children Donald R. Jr. (Louise) Massoni of Flanders NJ., Steven, Sr. (Debra) Massoni of Cumming GA., and James (Virginia) Massoni of Cocoa Beach FL.; Grandchildren, Donald R. Massoni, III., Maria Massoni-Swinarski, Gina Massoni, Matthew Massoni, Kristen Massoni-Reising, Amanda Massoni, Steven Massoni, Jr., Jessica Massoni-Gordon, and Jake Massoni; Great grandchildren, Finn Gordon,  Amelia and Dimitri Swinarski, Brody Reising and Madison Massoni.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Tuesday July 26, 2022 at St. Brendan The Navigator Catholic Church, 4633 Shiloh Rd., Cumming, GA 30040. 770-205-7969  https://www.stbrendansatl.com
