January 8, 1939 — September 23, 2022

Doris Virginia Lewis

Doris Virginia Lewis was born to Raven Harris and Mary V. Harris Wilkins in Atlanta, GA on Sunday, January 08, 1939, and through God's blessings lived to be 83 years old.

As a young girl Doris enjoyed roller skating and spending time with her siblings. As she matured into a beautiful young woman, she would become a mother and raise up her family. She would go on to develop a love for knitting and reading novels a love that would follow her until her hands could no longer knitting and her eyes could no longer see the words clearly. In the years that followed she filled her spare time traveling to different places and visiting casinos. Though her favorite hobby was playing bingo and spending time with the ones she loved.

Doris lived a full and fulfilling life with many accomplishments. She was recognized as the first female volunteer fire fighter in South Carolina where she served on the Blackville fire department for eleven years. Doris attended Barnwell Technical College where she obtained a welding certificate. She would go on to use this training at Ducane Gas Grills where she was a skilled welder and soon would go on to lead the Union.  Though she had many accomplishments her greatest accomplishment was being an extraordinary wife, mother and grandmother.

On Friday, September 23, 2022, at home with her sons, God saw within his will to call her home. The memory of her will continue to live in the hearts and minds of those who knew her.
