Mrs. Dorothy Kate Pitts Yearwood, formerly of Cumming, passed away, February 27, 2011 following a long battle with Alzheimers. Mrs. Yearwood grew up in Toccoa, Ga. where she and Jr. were married in 1947. The family resided in Cumming for over 40 years. Dorothy was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife and friend. She took in many children and adults as her own, and cared for everyone as if they were. She was a skilled cook, excellent gardener and incredible bargain hunter and passed down many of these traits to those around her. She loved to speak of the Bible and would gladly tell you how much she was blessed and a Christian of the Baptist faith. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Jasper P. Yearwood Jr.; parents, Cecil and Clara Pitts; sisters, Irene Yearwood and Annette Holbrooks; brothers, Charles and James Pitts. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, June and Pat Green, Pat Yearwood Manus, Betty and Michael Buice, Linda and Phil Mays all of Dawsonville, formerly of Cumming; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Holbrooks of Cumming, Louise Moore of Toccoa, Linda Pitts of Toccoa; brother, Harley Pitts of Toccoa; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Holbrooks officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Ingram Funeral Home Crematory, Cumming, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
