Mrs. Dorothy Naslund Bruce, age 86 of Cumming, Georgia and formerly of Toccoa, Georgia passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018 at her home in Vickery Village.
A daughter of the late Eric John Naslund and Ingaborg Wallin Naslund, and sister to the late Borghild Gambrill, she was born October 4, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois. Her family emigrated from Sweden prior to her birth. She was married for 58 years to the late Wallace (Wally) John Bruce and spent the greater part of her life in Toccoa, Georgia. Dorothy and Wally were very active in the Toccoa community and at St. Marys Catholic Church. She worked as a medical assistant and educator for a portion of her life then supported Wally in his career with Coats Clark Inc. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and just recently, great-grandmother.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law Christine and Randall Scott of Cumming, Georgia, Kimberly and Brett Hellenga of Woodstock, Georgia; two sons and daughters-in-law Eric J. and Kathy Bruce of Atlanta, Georgia, John and Leslie Bruce of Fletcher, North Carolina; grandchildren Lauren Middendorf and her husband Matthew, Ryan Scott, Amy Hellenga, Allison Hellenga, Eric D. Bruce, Madeline Bruce and Jack Bruce; two great-grandchildren Anna and Brooke Middendorf.
Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church in Cumming, Georgia with Father Paul Alger officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 am at the church prior to the Mass. Interment will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens in Toccoa, Georgia at 4:00 pm with Keith D. Watson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make memorial donations to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
