Doug Chapman

"Doug" Henry Douglas Chapman, a lover of forests and rivers, traveler of mountains and oceans, devout family man, and teacher of love and respect, passed away quietly with his children by his side November 9, 2020 at the age of 78.

Doug was born on April 8, 1942 and was raised in Hendersonville, NC. He met his wife Mary Lynn Gronemeyer -Geohegan in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the hospital as she was working as a nurse and he was a respiratory therapist. They married May 16, 1964 and had 2 children, Tama Lynn (Chapman) Myers and James (Jamie) Joseph Chapman. Their lives and careers took them to Evanston, IL: Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, FL; Richmond, VA., Conyers, GA; and they retired in Cumming, GA in order to be close to their children and grandchildren.

Doug lived a full life with many great friends and family adventures. He traveled all over the U.S with work and vacations. He loved snow skiing, camping, hiking, reading, golfing, motocross racing with his brothers, dancing, and having a nice scotch He also had many adventures on cruises to Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, and Alaska, as well as traveling to many places in Europe. Family vacations were treasured times together camping at Mills River in North Carolina and the Smokey Mountains, beach trips, and holiday gatherings.

Doug is survived by Mary Lynn Chapman (wife), Jamie (son) and Lori Chapman, Tama (daughter) and Brent Myers, grandchildren: Barrett and Kelsey Myers, Allison and Michael Toler, Erin Myers, Savannah and TJ Chini, and Chase Chapman. Siblings: Judith and Fred Snowden, Bill and Beth Chapman, and Tim Chapman. He is proceeded in death by his parents Bill "Pappy" and Marie Chapman; his brothers Joe and Gary Chapman.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 12, 2020 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Ingrams Funeral Home

Funeral will be held later in summer of 2021 in Hendersonville, NC as we take Doug back to his home in the Smokey Mountains
