Doug loved his Lord and is now with Him free from all of the physical troubles he endured in recent years.
We will miss his creative and fun perspective on life.
Wherever Doug found himself, a crazy story was bound to follow.
Doug was born in Plymouth, Indiana, on February 13, 1951. He grew up in Miami, Florida and graduated from Coral Gables High School in 1970. He lived the past fifty years in Little Five Points, Atlanta where he was a Urological Surgery Tech at Grady and Northside Hospitals. He owned Fabe's BBQ and catered for President Jimmy Carter and Willy Nelson. He was the Georgia State Hog Calling Champion so many times that the GA Legislature pronounced Doug the official Georgia State Hog Caller. He was an avid sailor on Lake Lanier and in Charleston, SC. Doug also wrote a weekly column on food for the Hudspeth Report called The Redneck Gourmet. He collected Folk Art and was a friend to many Atlanta artists. During his difficult health years he was cared for by his Ferguson Street neighbors and the phenomenal Deacons at ChristChurch Presbyterian.
"The Fabe," as he has been known since Jr. High School, was a great friend to so many who will miss him dearly. If he was in the room, there was laughter, funny stories and Doug was in the middle of it all.
Arrangements are under the care of Ingram Funeral Home.
