Douglas Windsor Frederick passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, in ICU at Northside Atlanta after being suddenly diagnosed on Saturday, November 16, 2013 with Acute Myeloid Leukemia Doug was born January 8, 1937 in Carnesville, Ga. He graduated from Reinhardt College with an Associate degree, Georgia Southern College with a Bachelor in Science Education degree, attended University of Kansas on a National Science Foundation Scholarship in Biology and Radiation Bio-physics, University of Georgia with a Master of Science Education degree and University of Georgia with an Educational Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision. His educational career began at Forsyth County High School in 1961 as a Science teacher and Boys Varsity Basketball Coach for seven years. He served as Principal of Midway Elementary for ten years, Sawnee Elementary for ten years and Assistant Superintendent of Forsyth County Schools for seven years. He retired after 34 years of service in the Forsyth County School System. He served as president of the Forsyth County Retired Teachers Organization. Doug was a member of Cumming First United Methodist Church where he served as President of the Faithful Fellowship Sunday School class. Doug was an avid golfer and he enjoyed outdoor activities, football, traveling, music and spending time with his family and friends. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Quince and Nelle Frederick and brothers George and Grant Frederick. He was deeply loved and his family mourns his loss. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 47 years, Gail; his children Leah (Brad) Carver, Russ (Polly) Frederick, and Lori (Jeff) Cooper; his grandchildren Elizabeth, Meredith, Adam Frederick and Ansley Carver; his sisters Betty (Rabun) Vaughn of Chamblee, Ga., Dot Ayers of Hoschton, Ga., Barbara (Sam) Anderson of Smyrna, Ga., and brother Stan Frederick of Marietta, Ga., sisters-in-law Jean Tribble and Evelyn Tribble, brothers and sisters-in-law Jim (Sue) Tribble, Jack (Ruth) Tribble all of Cumming, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Monday, November 25, 2013, at 3:00 pm at Cumming First United Methodist Church, 770 Canton Hwy, Cumming, Georgia with Dr. Jeff Ross officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 24, from 2:00 -5:00 pm at Ingram Funeral Home, in Cumming, Georgia. Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory, Cumming, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
