Dr. Larry Gilbert

Thomas Larry Gilbert, born December 20, 1942 in Atlanta, GA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 1, 2023.

Larry had a deep love for hunting and fishing, UGA football and his family.  From a young age, he always enjoyed the outdoors.  Whether it was fishing for trout at Wildcat, hunting quail at Thanksgiving or a good dove shoot on opening day while listening to the Dawgs play football, he loved the outdoors. He also loved and had a deep devotion to his family.  He married his wife Barbara Little of Atlanta, GA in May of 1963.  Through 60 years of marriage, Larry and Barbara built a loving family that included children: Tommy (Shannon) Gilbert, Lisa (Andy) Whitehead and Scott (Kendra) Gilbert.  He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren: Drew, Alex, Brianna, Laney, Noah, Ava, Emma and Alora.

In 1967, Larry obtained his Doctorate in Veterinarian Medicine from the University of Georgia and he and Barbara established the first Veterinary clinic in Cumming, GA.  After 34 years in practice, Larry retired to spend more time with his family and to spend even more time serving his Lord.  Larry and Barbara served with the Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief team to feed various communities recovering from natural disasters and Larry did several mission trips including Tanzania with Concord Baptist Church and Mongolia with Christian Veterinarian Missions. If you met Larry, he always wanted to know where you went to church.   Your eternity was important to him.

Larry served in various ministries at Concord Baptist Church including the Board of Deacons, the Food Service Ministry and as a pray warrior for the church.  He refused to be satisfied with past victories and challenged others to continue the work of Christ.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held Tuesday, April 4^th at 11:00 am at Concord Baptist Church in Cumming, GA.  The family will receive visitors on Monday, April 3^rd from 6:00-9:00pm at Ingram’s Funeral Home in Cumming, GA.

In lieu of flowers, at Larry’s request, the family requests donations be made to the Concord Baptist Church Youth Center, 6905 Concord Road, Cumming, Georgia 30028.
