Dr. Wiley Richard Boyles, Jr., age 86, of Cumming, GA, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018.
Dr. Boyles was born in LaGrange, Georgia on April 26, 1931 and was a graduate of LaGrange High School. After serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War stationed in Casablanca, he attended the University of Georgia where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and met his wife to be. He also attended Emory University, the University of Tennessee Chattanooga and received his Ph.D. in Industrial Psychology from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Dr. Boyles started his career working at Fort Rucker, AL training helicopter pilots for their missions in Vietnam. In 1970 he was named one of the first professors at Auburn Universitys new campus in Montgomery AUM. Dr. Boyles continued his career at AUM becoming the Dean of the School of Sciences and Vice Chancellor for Research and Development. He finished his career at Auburns main campus as a professor in the Lowder School of Business. He received the Professor Emeritus Award from Auburn in 1995. Dr. Boyles also founded a consulting firm, W.R. Boyles and Associates, validating standardized testing methods and fair hiring practices. He retired in 1998.
A lifelong Presbyterian, Dr. Boyles was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Roswell, GA for the last 15 years and was active in other churches serving as an Elder and Treasurer at Evergreen Presbyterian Church in Dothan, AL, Head Usher and Stewardship Chair at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, AL and served on the New Church Organizing Committee for Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, AL before becoming a member there.
Wiley was an avid fisherman and for over 20 years made an annual fishing trip to the North Georgia Mountains with the same group of friends every year. He could often be found listening to great jazz music and even enjoyed the classical music realm when boating on Lake Martin in Alabama. While his golf game was never perfect, he loved the being on the golf course with friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Macalyn Wyche Boyles; his three sisters and parents, Wiley Sr. and Lottie Hammett Boyles.
He is survived by his children; Robert Carter Bob (Janey) Boyles of Cumming, GA and Richard Clay Boyles of Johns Creek, GA; granddaughter Jennifer Stewart (Mac) and greatgrandchildren Ally Stewart and Dawson Stewart also of Cumming, GA and many other loving nieces and nephews, friends and other relatives.
A Celebration of Life Service for Dr. Boyles will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2400 Old Alabama Road, Roswell, GA 30076
In lieu of Flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Dr. Wiley to the Montreat Scholarship Fund at Northminster Presbyterian Church.
