Edith Virginia Cathcart (nee Edith Virginia Bagwell) passed away on June 10, 2023 in St. Augustine, Florida at the age of 99.
Edith was one of five children born in Forsyth County, Georgia to James and Susie Bagwell. She was married to John P. Cathcart for over 57 years, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her two sons and their wives, J. Sidney and Gloria Cathcart of Port St. Joe, FL and David A. and Cathy Cathcart of St. Augustine, FL; six grandchildren, Adam, Brian, Christy, Max, Isabella and Alex; and four great-grandchildren.
Edith lived most of her life in Georgia until 2010, when she moved to St. Augustine to be closer to her family. She was a loving, sweet and kind mother who devoted her life to caring for her husband and children. For many years, Edith also worked as a keypunch operator for IBM. From a young age, Edith and her siblings had a great love for playing instruments and singing gospel/country music. Edith used her musical gifts of singing and playing the piano to praise and worship the Lord both in her Baptist Church and later leading the choir at Summer Breeze Apartments, where she resided.
The family will receive visitors at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GA on Monday, June 26, 2023 from 10:00am to 11:00am followed by a service in the chapel. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Roswell, GA, where she will be laid to rest next to John.
