Edward Jones Austin

Edward Jones Austin was born May 8, 1923 and raised on the family home place on Mt. Vernon Road in Dunwoody. After graduating from Chamblee High School, he attended North Georgia College where he also participated in the Golden Gloves boxing program. He responded to the call of his country when he enlisted and proudly served in the Army in World War IIs Pacific Campaign deployed to Guadalcanal and the Fiji Islands and was honorably discharged at the rank of First Sergeant.

He married the love of his life Frances Elise Amacker February 28, 1948 taking up residence in Canton. Eventually they moved to the Atlanta area where Eddies diverse career led him to the W. D. Alexander Company. It was there that his passion for sales blossomed in the appliance and consumer electronics distribution industry.

He retired from his management position in 1989 to focus on another passion: to return to the farm life he grew up with and so loved. Frances and Eddie pulled up their Sandy Springs roots to live on the Forsyth County farm he had purchased and previously only been able to enjoy on weekends. Both sons and their families joined him on the property where all still reside.

Eddie was extremely active at St. James United Methodist Church over the years holding many leadership positions and championing several programs, facility improvements and group formations and attended as often as possible in recent years.

Eddie proudly celebrated his 70th wedding anniversary in February and is survived by his loving wife Frances, son Greer (Judy) and their daughters Ashley (Cody) Owen, Melissa (Charlie) Isbell and Michelle (Brian) Levesque, son Mark (Angie) and their sons Tyler (Whitney) Bond and Matt (Jason) Bond along with great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
