Edwin Lynn Bottoms

Edwin Lynn Bottoms passed away on July 30, 2023 at the age of 83. He was born on August 26, 1939. He lived all of his life in Forsyth County between the Friendship and Matt Communities. He was a devoted member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.

Lynn was a singer and loved Gospel music. He was well known in our local Baptist churches and would frequently sing the “Beggar Song.” He sang with spirit and had a true love for the messages in the songs he shared. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Matt, Ga.  He loved his friends and would ride along on day trips into the mountains, or go grab lunch at a local restaurant. He loved to joke and get something on you and was always fun to share a laugh with.

Lynn held many jobs in his life. He worked several years in downtown Atlanta for Sears & Roebuck, after which he was owner and proprietor of several different small local country stores around North Forsyth. It was during the store years that he taught himself how to bake pound cakes and those cakes quickly became his legacy around the community. He also spent a few years as a semi-truck driver. Always a hobbyist woodworker, in the early 80’s he found his true professional calling and began his cabinetry business. Due to declining health, he retired from cabinetry around 2020. He struggled to leave his beloved shop and lay down his tools. In his heart he never turned off his saws. His work can be found in homes all over North Georgia.

Lynn was loved by all that knew him and rarely met a stranger. A solid man with a servant’s heart. He is preceded in death by Barbara D. Bottoms and his parents Jay and Florene Bottoms. He is survived by his long time special friend of 34 years, Mrs. Betty Johnson. Also his children Russell (Phyllis) Bottoms, Michael (Holly) Bottoms; Tracey (David) Hicks, Christy (Neal) Day.  His grandchildren Josh (Megan) McCormick, Abby (Jacob) Otwell, Tori (Chris) Seay, McKinsey Bottoms, Reagan Hicks, Emily Bottoms, Jay Bottoms, Sam Bottoms and Annslee Kirby.  Great Grand Children Lucas McCormick & Hudson Otwell. Also surviving are his siblings, Gene (Helen) Bottoms, Hellon (Doyle) Ledbetter, Bernice (Richard) Parrott, Dennis (Sandra) Bottoms and a number of nephews, nieces, cousins and others that were dear to his heart.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church Arbor in Cumming, GA, with Rev. Sam Rickett, Rev. Allen Dixon and Rev. Harold Bottoms officiating. Interment will follow at Silver City Baptist Church Cemetery in Cumming, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:00pm until 8:00pm and Wednesday from 9:00am until 10:30am
