Elaine Morris Smith

Elaine Morris Smith, 80, of Canton, GA passed away Saturday, October 14, 2023. Mrs. Smith was born in Atlanta, GA to the late J. Russell and Mildred Wix Morris. Elaine was a member of First Baptist Church Cumming where she worked in the church office following her retirement from Georgia Power. She loved her LORD and Savior Jesus Christ and her beloved family and friends.  Her acts of kindness were numerous.  She demonstrated sacrificial love in so many ways.  She was a prayer warrior and an encourager.  She loved animals, especially her parrot Gracie, and fed the deer, rabbits and birds and loved watching horses.  Elaine loved listening to music, her favorites being gospel music, hymns and Elvis Presley.  She was not a competitive person, but enjoyed sitting around the table together playing cards.  She and her husband took many wonderful trips and enjoyed traveling to Tennessee to be with family and also traveling with church groups and friends.  She enjoyed walking in her neighborhood and talking with neighbors.  Elaine came from a long line of great cooks and baked many delicious treats especially at Christmas time.  Togetherness was most important to her and she loved sitting around the table with family and friends drinking sweet tea.  She was a wonderful decorator and great at finding a bargain.  She enjoyed buying things for others.  She was an avid reader, the Bible being her favorite book.  She will be greatly missed and a void left in our hearts until we meet her again in heaven.

She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Ron Smith; her daughters, Elizabeth Schneider and Jennifer Schneider; sister, Mary Ann Corrigan; nephews Michael Garrison (Susan), David Corrigan (Julia), Alan Corrigan (Amber) and Mark Corrigan, along with several great-nephews and nieces and cousins.

A celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at First Baptist Church Cumming with Dr. B.V. (Butch) Franklin officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens in Cumming, GA. The family will receive friends Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until service time at First Baptist Church Cumming, located at 1597 Sawnee Drive, Cumming GA.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Greater Things Building Fund at First Baptist Church Cumming (firstbaptistcumming.org).
